How do I sign up to attend a GearWORKS: Cavaliers 2013 Clinic/Audition Camp?
Excellent question. The excellent answer is HERE.

How many members are returning from last year?
We don’t know just yet. First of all, The Cavaliers do not reserve spots for returning members -- every position (except drum major) is open to any qualified performer.
Second, there are many reasons why a past member with eligibility remaining might not be able to commit to another season with the corps.

Is talent the primary audition requirement, or is attitude and improvement considered?
Talent is important, but it is certainly not the only criterion. Attitude is extremely important, and your improvement between camps will show The Cavaliers staff that you have potential for growth.

Can I try out for drum major?
No -- The Cavaliers do not audition for drum major. Cavalier drum majors are selected from veteran members.

Can I tryout on my own trombone, tuba, french horn, cornet, etc.?
Yes, we recommend that you use your own instrument since you will be most comfortable with it. If you prefer, you may use one of The Cavaliers horns, but it is possible that you will not be able to use it full-time during the camps.

Do I have to bring my own horn?
No, you may use one of The Cavaliers horns, but it is possible that you will not be able to use it full-time during the camps. So, if you can bring a horn, make sure you have you're name on the case and know the identifying marks on your horn, as many horns look alike.
For the audition camps we definitely encourage you to bring your own horn (we don't HAVE trombones or French horns), and as we get into the winter we will eventually start to issue corps horns.

Should I bring my own snare, tenor, marimba, etc.?
It is probably best that you NOT bring your own drum. We don't usually put more than 9-11 guys on snare and no more than six on tenor in any room, and we have enough drums to do that. DO bring your drum pad and sticks.

Is there an audition for synthesizer in the front ensemble?
The Cavaliers will be utilizing one, possibly two synthesizers for the 2013 season. The synthesizer positions will primarily handle electronics, so substantial keyboard skills are essential. However, the synth players may also be called upon to play various percussion instruments, both pitched and non-pitched. Synthesizer players need to be percussionists who are also very capable piano players.
