Greg,
All of the vets were new guys at one time and went through the exact same things you will go through. There were aspects of my new guy year and my initiation that I didn't like, but I am glad I went through it and can honestly say I am a better person because of it. As far as cleaning the show goes, everyone is treated equal. We all have to perform our show with equal perfection. I think it's great that you are very confident in yourself and have personal reasons for being with the corps. But, being a great player isn't all that it takes. There are many great players that couldn't hack it in drum corps. You have to be able to march (...more like jog) and play well at the same time during the entire 11 minute show. You also have to be mentally and physically capable of making it through 12+ hour rehearsal days and sleeping on a bus or gym for 3 months. Plus you'll have to say goodbye to all your friends and family. It's really a much bigger commitment than it first seems. So think about that and try to view it from our shoes. All the vets from last summer earned a world title. None of this year's new members had anything to do with that. That's my opinion anyway. I'd like to hear what the other vets or staff think.
