As far as worst experiences, being involved with the corps for so long, several not so glamorous experiences come to mind. Perhaps the foremost worst experience was learning my grandfather died while I was on tour in 1989. A funny tid-bit about this is that I was told Randy Isoda filled my spot in rehearsal for a drill change I missed while attending the funeral. When I was teaching in 1997 or 1998 I learned that a guy I marched with (McAllister Daniel) was involved in a pretty serious automobile accident, in which he was lucky to survive (in fact, one passenger was not this lucky). Even though I really did not know Julian, I remember his passing hitting the corps pretty hard.Embarrassing experiences, well, too many to take the cake. I suppose being locked on the horn bus in North Carolina because Jeff was mad at us about something -- so we all got naked a greeted Jeff with a truly unique Cavalier hello as he unlocked the bus. I think he quickly forgot what was bothering him as he laughed about what happened. Another one, which is not really embarrassing, would be performing at the old Michigan City stadium and having a set at the end of a song that placed me directly on the pitcher's mound. I can't tell you how much I was praying that I was right because I was a few feet higher than the rest of the corps (or that Jeff didn't see if I was wrong)
-How about looking for Rainbow Man?
-Running through the streets of Montreal with Chad Jacobs, stripping and screaming unintelligible French sayings, only to profess my love for some girl in the Blue Devils guard (they were there too). I went and passed out and Chad went to sleep in the bus restroom, blocking an entire bus of beer loaded guys access to the restroom.
-Having a temper and aruging with my friend Keith and uttering the words "Do you wanna throw Jelly-Roll?"
-Completely funny: watching Sly go off on the bus driver for the staff bus running out of gas (AGAIN)
One thing to do over: Not take everything so seriously. Have fun: It's just drum corps!
