I like Boise and often stop overnight on my way to Utah. I stay near the river (Shiloh Inn) so I can jog along the bike-path that follows the river for miles. For dinner, there's a fantastic restaurant near the river called The Cottonwood Grill. Fantastic food and a good selection of fine wines. Great service. Get a booth in the bar, if possible. It's more intimate, and suprisingly not smoky.
There's also a Basque population in Boise, which means if you look around downtown, you can find a nice Basque restaurant for a change of pace.
Ever tour the Idaho state capitol building? It's worth it. Very nicely done. Beautiful murals and sculptures and mosaics. There was a state trooper posted at the door, and he said hello to me. Didn't even stop me or frisk me. I guess he didn't know I'm a Cavalier.
Anyway, those paintings look better in my living-room than they did in the capitol. *LOL*
