TALENT - Your abilities on your instrument/equipment. Your movement ability. Your development and progress over a period of time, as set and judged against established criteria by the Instructional Staff.FEES & PAYMENTS - By adhering to your REQUIRED financial responsibility and fee payment schedule, you maintain active status with The Cavaliers.
ATTENDANCE - We expect you to attend all the required ‘off-season’ rehearsals. Each brass & percussion Member is expected to attend all winter/spring camps (Color Guard auditions in the fall and rejoins for the April Camp). Of course, this is not always possible. School concerts and finals, illness and major immediate-family events (weddings & funerals, NOT birthdays and graduation parties) can get in the way. If you have a critical family or school conflict with the camps from January to April, contact us in advance by calling or e-mailing your caption head, as well as the Corps Director (cavdirector@cavaliers.org). If we don’t hear from you, we consider the absence unexcused, which could cause your spot to be transferred to an alternate. During the summer, we expect you to plan everything around our tour.Should you make The Cavaliers you will be expected to immediately consult your winter calendar for any conflicts. You should know your important school dates, including finals and dismissal.
ATTITUDE - A positive approach to drum corps is a good approach. The work can get hard and there will be frustration. Those people who are willing to work as a team — Management, Instructors and Members — and get things done, are the kind of people we want. People who make a hobby out of complaining, criticizing and causing general unrest, we don’t want. Our philosophy is to be the best we can be and to have a good time. If someone doesn’t want to work at both of those, he shouldn’t bother auditioning for The Cavaliers.
HEALTH - You must be physically, mentally and emotionally capable to withstand the rigorous requirements of practices, performances, and travel. Mentally, emotionally, and physically - we are always on the go. If you have ANY doubts about this program, please call. A physical screening form will be provided and must be completed by the Member’s private physician and returned to The Cavaliers by the January Call-Back Camp (Brass/Percussion) or April Call-Back Camp (Color Guard). It is a requirement for each Member to be covered by medical insurance (for sickness) for a minimum of the summer months mid-May to mid-August. For those who do not have medical insurance, we will assist you with the procurement process.
