The Cavaliers Announce 2010 Color Guard Staff

The Cavaliers are pleased to announce their color guard staff for the 2010 season.

Veteran designer Andy Toth adds the title of Caption Head this year. Andy has been a member of the design team for The Cavaliers since 1998. He was a member of The Cavaliers color guard in 1996-1997, Cadets of Bergen County (1993-1995), Emerald Marquis (1994-1995), Adagio (1996), and the Pride of Cincinnati (1997-1998), and was an original cast member of the Emmy and Tony award winning production of Blast! Andy has been choreographer for numerous color guards, marching bands, and drum & bugle corps throughout North America, Europe, and Asia, and currently is a designer for the Pride of Cincinnati winter guard as well as Carmel, Kiski, Marian Catholic, and Stephen F. Austin High Schools. In 2007, Toth earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Physiology from the University of Illinois at Chicago where he resides today. Andy says, "After 15 years of service to the Cavaliers, it is a privilege and honor to lead this undeniably talented color guard staff in 2010. The incredible passion that they have for their craft is inspirational, and is the reason why we all continue to work together throughout the year on many other projects as well. I'm excited for this group of people to share their strengths with all of the returning members as well as the new members of The Cavaliers color guard."

The highly experienced team features returning members Tommy Allen, Brady Sanders, Chris Wray, and Bart Woodley, and newcomers Sheldon Apo and Travis Speice.


  • Tommy Allen is entering his 9th year of involvement with The Cavaliers. He was a 5-year member (2002-2006), and served as Drum Major for the 2006 championship season. Allen is also an alumnus of the Pride of Cincinnati (2003-2004). He is the Visual Coordinator for The Norwin High School Band and Guard, and is a designer for the Pride of Cincinnati, Lawrence Central, Centerville, and Miamisburg high schools. Tommy is a native of Indianapolis, and currently resides in Pittsburgh. He holds a BA in Fashion Marketing and Management from The Illinois Institute of Art-Chicago.

  • Brady Sanders has been a member of The Cavaliers color guard staff since 2008. He performed with The Cavaliers from 2003 to 2007 and was Co-Guard Sergeant during his last two years. Brady attended Illinois State University where he performed with the Illinois State Dance Theater. He has toured nationally and internationally with Thodos Dance Chicago, recently performing at the Busan International Dance Festival in South Korea. Brady’s most recent teaching endeavors include Steven F. Austin High School, Marian Catholic High School, Norwin High School, and the Pride of Cincinnati winter guard.

  • Chris Wray will be returning for his second year teaching The Cavaliers color guard, and is in his first winter teaching the Pride of Cincinnati, where he performed in 1997. Chris currently resides in Ft. Wayne, IN, teaching multiple high school marching bands and color guards including Bluffton, Heritage, Angola, Carroll high schools, and Heritage Independent. Chris is a graduate of Ball State University, and holds degrees in elementary and special education.

  • Bart Woodley has been on The Cavaliers instructional staff 1994-95 and 2000-present. Bart performed in The Cavaliers color guard (1991-1993) and Escapade winter guard, and has worked with the Pride of Cincinnati Winter Guard, Center Grove High School, and Centerville High School. Bart holds a master’s degree in Public Relations and BA in Advertising from Ball State University. Bart is currently the Marketing Manager for Winter Guard International.

  • Sheldon Apo is entering his first season as part of the color guard staff for The Cavaliers. Sheldon marched in the 2001 and 2002 Cavaliers color guard, and performed in the Pride of Cincinnati from 2003 - 2005. Sheldon has written for the Independent World Class finalist, Zydeco Color Guard, and is currently the Guard Director for Bellbrook High School and designer/choreographer for Centerville and Miamisburg high schools. Sheldon holds a BS in Mathematics and Computer Engineering.

  • Travis Speice is entering his first season with The Cavaliers color guard staff. He is an alumnus of the Boston Crusaders Drum and Bugle Corps (2004), and has performed with the Pride of Cincinnati (2006-present), Aimachi (2009), Empire (2005), and Patriots (2002-2003). Travis holds a master’s degree in sociology from the University of Cincinnati, and bachelor’s degrees in sociology and psychology from the State University of New York College at Brockport. He is currently a Ph.D. graduate student, and resides in Cincinnati, OH.

The Cavaliers Visual Coordinator and Drill Designer Michael Gaines says, "The guard staff for the 2010 Cavaliers is incredible! I choose to work with these gentlemen summer, fall, and winter due to their collective ability to create, to train, and to mold young people into fantastic performers. Aside from being men of great integrity, they are men of passion and excitement. Rarely have I seen a staff whose individual talents fit so cohesively together into one team. It is this team that will lead the 2010 Cavaliers color guard into a summer they will never forget."
