The Cavaliers are pleased to announce the appointment of Brandon Cave as Drum Major, and Benjamin Ash as Color Guard Sergeant for the 2010 season. Brandon served as Horn Sergeant, and Ben as assistant Guard Sergeant last season. Corps Director Adolph DeGrauwe says, "These two young men exemplify the character and work ethic we require of our Junior Officers. Both Brandon and Ben are highly respected by the members, staff, volunteers, and management of the corps. I'm confident they will do an outstanding job leading our members this year."
Brandon Cave is a junior Trumpet Performance major at the University of Oklahoma. He is originally from Omaha, Nebraska where he attended Millard North High School. This summer will be Brandon's fourth year with the Cavaliers and his sixth in the activity. Brandon keeps himself busy throughout the year performing in various ensembles through the University of Oklahoma as well as playing in different groups around the Norman/Oklahoma City area. Brandon states, "I cannot express how excited I am about taking on this new challenge."
Benjamin Ash is a junior at the University of Texas in Austin where he is studying Architectural Engineering. 2010 will be Ben's fifth and final year with the corps (the last remaining member from the 2006 championship season). Ben was drum major for 3 years in high school, and marched WGI World Finals with Code Black Winterguard in 2008. Ben does choreography for various groups around Texas. Ben says, "I am eager and ready to lead The Cavaliers Color Guard in another great season. I am proud to be aging out with an amazing group of young men."
The Cavaliers have a long tradition of member-leadership, with the drum major and guard sergeant as the leaders of the junior officer corps. The corps does not hold auditions for these position. Candidates are chosen from among the veteran membership.
Please join us in congratulating Brandon and Ben.
