Program Coordinator

Scott Koter, is currently Assistant to the Superintendent for Secondary Education in the Kiski Area School District in Vandergrift, Pa. and previously served as middle school principal, supervisor of music and director of bands in the same school district since 1983. During that time, his ensembles received numerous awards and honors including appearances at the Midwest Band & Orchestra, MENC, IAJE and PMEA conventions. His marching bands accumulated numerous state and regional titles while winning the Bands of America Grand National class AA title in 1991 and 1994.

Koter earned his undergraduate degree from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania and graduate degrees from Duquesne University and California University of Pennsylvania. He is a member of many professional organizations including NASSP, ASCD, MENC, PAS, Phi Mu Alpha and Phi Beta Mu. His publishing credits include articles in PMEA Notes, Today's Music Educator and Percussive Notes. He also received citations for teaching excellence from IAJE, NBA, Pennsylvania Music Educators Association, Duquesne University, St. Vincent College and has been selected to Who's Who Among American Teachers numerous times.

Koter has served as a design consultant to Spirit of Atlanta, Troopers, Bluecoats, Glassmen, Magic of Orlando and Ventures, as well as numerous award-winning high school band programs throughout the country. Presently the music education director for the Pennsylvania Federation of Contest Judges, he served as percussion caption chairman for Drum Corps International from 1989 to 1996 and also served on the Bands of America contest advisory board. He has guest conducted, adjudicated contests and performed clinics throughout the U.S., Canada, Europe and Japan.

Scott has been honored to serve as program coordinator for The Cavaliers since 1999 and was recently named Honorary Cavalier. He resides in suburban Pittsburgh, PA with his wife Carol and children Ryan and Morgan.
