Ivan is native from El Paso, Texas. He graduated from New Mexico State University in 2004 with a BA in Music Education. He is currently an assistant band director at Bel Air High School in El Paso. Ivan marched with the Cavaliers in 2003 and came on staff in 2004. He is a tubist and a member of the Pentabrass Quintet.
