The Cavaliers' official website was launched in February of 1997, in cooperation with Former Marching Member (FMM) John Ingram, an Internet Architect in Atlanta, GA, and continues to manage and host the site to this day. John can be contacted at webmaster@cavaliers.org.
There are several people who also volunteer as Site Administrators. Don Heitzman is very involved with site administration, especially the online store. Jeff Fiedler has administrator access, but usually just posts news stories from time to time and stays VERY active on the Message Forum.
There have been some recent additions to the web team, as the website feature wish list grows faster than one part-time volunteer can possibly make it all happen. FMM Derek Dagit and All-Purpose Volunteer Chris Ham are PHP coders that will be adding functionality to the site and learning about the inner workings, to decentralize the knowledge away from John and ensure continuity.
The site is hosted on a server running Red Hat Linux and the Apache Web Server, compiled with mod_ssl and mod_perl. The server itself is hosted at Rackspace.com and is physically located in San Antonio, Texas.
All dynamic data is retrieved by programs written in Perl. These scripts use a custom Perl module called Cavie that was written specifically for this site.
The boxes in the margins of every page are generated on a regular schedule before being incorporated into each page, so new information is often not visible in the boxes for a few minutes.
