Chromium Winds Announces 2021 Virtual Season

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(ROSEMONT, Ill.) – Following WGI’s announcement that they will not be presenting in-person events for the 2021 season, Chromium Winds (CW), the WGI Winds ensemble presented by The Cavaliers, announces today that its 2021 season will be presented in a fully virtual format.

“Our CW leadership team has been engaged in conversations since early in the Summer to evaluate the ways we could present the CW experience that we are so proud of, while keeping performer safety front of mind.” said Andrew Zweibel, Ensemble Director. “While we are disappointed that we won’t be able to come together in person as an ensemble, we have an exciting slate of virtual opportunities for our 2021 students.”

Chromium’s 2021 season will be headlined by the new CW Virtual Ensemble, which will rehearse remotely and compete in WGI’s noncompetitive eShowcase category. This category allows ensembles to present creatively edited and produced virtual video projects in creative settings. Chromium will be welcoming back its’ award-winning design team to put together this production.

“Our music design duo of Michael Martin (winds/brass arranger) and Matt Hahn (electronics design) are already working together to create an engaging and creative score for the virtual environment.” added Zweibel. “I’m also thrilled to have our visual designers back, including Kevin Nevsimal who will be providing his visual creativity to our design process, and Jordan Zweibel who will be choreographing for the ensemble moments of our video.”

CW Virtual Ensemble members will also continue to develop their visual skills from home under the leadership of visual caption head Dana Young. While all members of this year’s program will participate in the CW Virtual Ensemble, CW will also be offering extra options this year for members who wish to enhance their musical experience.

“Members who are looking for extra opportunities to develop as musicians will have the option to sign up to compete in WGI’s virtual eSolo or Small Ensemble categories as a part of their membership with us this year.” said Jeremy Stevens, Chromium’s music caption head. “Participants in either of these groups practice or rehearse on their own, and receive a number of individualized coaching sessions with our outstanding music staff as they prepare their videos.”
