Russell Rybicki

Russell Rybicki is currently 3rd/Assistant Principal horn in the San Antonio Philharmonic and a freelance performer based in Houston, TX where is the hornist and arranger of the Monarch Chamber Players. He has held positions in the San Antonio Symphony, Vancouver Symphony and the New World Symphony. He has played with the Rochester Philharmonic, the Buffalo Philharmonic, the Louisiana Philharmonic, the Binghamton Philharmonic, NuDeco Ensemble, Sarasota Orchestra, Sarasota Opera, and the Civic Orchestra of Chicago. He has won several competitions including the Brighton Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition, the National Music Festival Concerto Competition, and was a bronze medalist in the Fischoff Chamber Music Competition. Russell was selected to perform Esa-Pekka Salonen's Concert Étude during Salonen's residency at Northwestern University. He has also performed in the jazz idiom, and was a member with the Grammy Award Winning Gil Evans Centennial Jazz Ensemble at the Umbria Jazz Festival in Perugia, Italy.

Russell completed his graduate studies at Northwestern University and his undergraduate degree at the Eastman School of Music studying horn and instrumental Music Education. His primary teachers include Gail Williams, Jonathan Boen, W. Peter Kurau and natural horn with Derek Conrod.

Russell’s drum corps experience includes playing mellophone for the Crossmen 2007-2009 where he was section leader and field-lining captain and Carolina Crown 2010.
